Molson Coors is planning to move to Longueuil on a piece of land near St-Hubert Airport and the Canadian Space Agency, La Presse reported.
Access to highways was a major factor in the choice of location, according to the newspaper, which said several sources confirmed the move to the new plant, which will cost a total of $600 million.
Montreal had proposed a site in the east of the island, near Highway 40, but the Métropolitain Expressway is often congested and thus not ideal for transporting raw materials or beer. Also, one of the proposed lots was contaminated and the site was too small for the proposed Molson project, one source said.
Molson Coors said the decision has not yet been made. Company spokesperson François Lefebvre said the company has requested a meeting with mayor-elect Valérie Plante.

Plante has not given up on the idea of persuading the company to stay on the island. She was to meet with Geoff Molson on Saturday afternoon.
Some insiders believe the company will announce the project by the end of the year.
The old Molson site, a heritage complex near the Jacques Cartier Bridge, would be transformed into a Museum of Beer, highlighting the contribution of the Molson family to the history of Montreal.
