Maxar Technologies‘Â MDA business has received four contracts worth a combined $41.7 million to help the Canadian space agency develop space exploration technology platforms.
MDA said Friday it will build tools designed to simplify operations and reduce operator communication load for the Mobile Servicing System currently on board the International Space Station under two contract modifications from the agency.
MSS consists of three robotic platforms that include the Canadarm2 for spacecraft capture, Dextre for routine maintenance and Mobile Base for equipment transport.
The third contract covers the development of a system that will work to autonomously manage robotic arms, rovers, satellites and scientific instruments in support of Canada’s Space Technology Development Program.
For the fourth contract, MDA will conduct a concept study on a pressurized rover for potential use on the lunar surface and a smaller rover for technology experimentation and sample collection activities.
